Pilkington Point & Millennium Point ( Fantastic Views )

Next time you visit Bandarawela, Poonagala or Koslanda take time to treat yourself to a fantastic views of the Eastern & Southern plains. Some of the ‘best views’ you will ever experience. If you are interested, read on. It’s quite easy to get there. And always remeber to take a good camera with you.

You can start from either Bandarawela or Koslanda. I will give directions from Bandarawela. That’s where I started from. If you are travelling by bus, this is the easiest route.

From the Bandarawela town take a bus that goes to Poonagala. (The first bus leaves at 6.20 a.m. and will cost you Rs.33/-.) Remember that if you sit on the left side of the bus, you will be able to enjoy the scenery most of the way. Ask the conductor to drop you at the junction / turn off where the road to Koslanda begins. It’s easily identifiable as the ‘Poonagala’ name board is placed at this junction. The approximate distance to this place from Bandarawela is 21km.

Read the whole article about fantastic views on "Lakdasun Forum". And special Thanks to Priyanjan de Silva.

Ranweli Holiday Village - Waikkal

Ranweli’s architecture blends with the unique and rich natural environment. The serene and idyllic location has been fully utilized in the layout of the land, featuring indigenous flora and fauna, and borders the wide sandy beach on one side, and the river on the other.
The land was originally a coconut plantation surrounded by wetlands mainly mangroves. In conceptualizing Ranweli, the architects used the spacing of the rows of the coconut trees (known as the coconut grid by Agriculturists) as the discipline for the design. The bungalows, central areas and facilities were built by removing the minimum number of coconut trees. For each bungalow constructed, only one tree was removed and the tree trunks were used to construct the pillars.
The connecting walkways open out into beautifully tended palm gardens leading to the heart of the resort. Architecturally and aesthetically the construction and furnishing of the village blends western standards of comfort and with the traditions of indigenous Sri Lankan culture

Ranweli’s restaurant, offers a delicious buffet and a' la carte Sri Lankan and International cuisine. Vegetarian meals are available on request and in all buffets.
In addition to the main restaurant, a pavilion bar by the swimming pool, constructed with eco-friendly and biodegradable material, provides snacks and beverages. This is a favourite spot among the guests to enjoy the ambiance and sunset. Also a small fruit stall called the "Palathuru Masse" located next to the main bar, serves fresh fruit juices and herbal drinks of medicinal value.

Whenever possible fresh produce is procured from the local community. We also have our own organic vegetable plots.
Dining under the Mangroves
This unique dining experience in a secluded forested environment is a must for all nature lovers. The venue is constructed using local materials including jungle poles and dry leaves of the Palmyrah while the furniture has been made with branches of fallen trees and tree trunks. The restaurant stands on stilts which provides a wonderful view of the flowing river and mangroves. Dinner is under the stars with added lighting provided by kerosene lanterns.
Ferry Dinner
This romantic ferry cruise with special dinner is served on a beautifully decorated ferry. The ferry will glide along the scenic river bordering the resort with a personal butler, a chef and a ferryman in attendance to meet all your dining needs. The Guests can select any one of the three specially designed menus. The menus offer a five course dinner with a choice of seafood or Sri Lankan/Eastern dishes or meat, as the main course.

Tea and coffee will be served at the end of the meal. A bottle of sparkling wine is served to complement the dinner.
